HDMI ARC Audio Extractor for TVs with No Audio Outputs
It is rare, but a few modern TVs have no dedicated audio output, meaning no optical TOSLINK jack, no RCA audio output, and no 3.5mm analog output (headphone jack). If your TV falls into this category but has an HDMI jack labeled ARC or eARC, an HDMI ARC audio extractor will let you connect a ZVOX model that does not have HDMI ARC built in.
The extractor plugs into the ARC or eARC jack on your TV and provides an audio output that the ZVOX can connect to.
Which Type of Extractor Do You Need
Which extractor is right for you depends on which ZVOX you have.
Most ZVOX models have an optical input, so an extractor with an optical TOSLINK output will work.
If your ZVOX does not have an optical input, choose an extractor with an analog output that also supports CEC (Consumer Electronics Control).
Make sure you are buying an HDMI ARC audio extractor, not a standard HDMI audio extractor. The listing has to say ARC or eARC. A standard HDMI audio extractor is a different device and will not work in this application.

If the Extractor Does Not Work Right Away
These settings are usually automatic, but if you are not getting audio, both are worth checking.
- In your TV's sound settings, set the Digital Audio Output Format to PCM. Many extractors do not accept Dolby Digital, so the audio will not work if the TV is set to an incompatible format.
- Make sure CEC is turned on in your TV's settings. Different brands use different names for this feature, so it may be listed under something other than CEC.
Another Option: A ZVOX With HDMI ARC Built In
If you would rather skip the adapter, several ZVOX models now have HDMI ARC built in.
The advantage there is that your TV remote and all your other remotes will control the speaker automatically once it is plugged into the ARC or eARC jack, and the ZVOX will power off and on with the TV. It makes for a very easy setup.
