Spectrum Remote Instructions UR-8780 / UR5U-8780L
These instructions will let your Spectrum UR-8780 / UR5U-8780L remote control the volume, mute, and power on your ZVOX speaker. This remote is also used by some other cable and satellite providers, so as long as the model number on your remote matches, these instructions should work.
Part 1: Set Your ZVOX to PS-1 (Sony)
First, you’ll change a setting in the ZVOX’s “PS” or “preset” menu to PS-1 (Sony). After making this change, the ZVOX will emulate a Sony component and “understand” Sony remote commands, which will be programmed into your Spectrum 8780 remote in Part 2.
Note: Not every ZVOX model has this setting, but most do.
For Models with an Other Settings Button on the ZVOX Remote
AV200 (ver 2), AV201, AV155, AV157, AV203, AV257, AV355, AV357, AV835, AV855, SB380 (ver 2), SB500 (ver 2), SB700 (ver 2)
- Turn on your ZVOX speaker.
- Press and hold the Other Settings button on the ZVOX remote until you see “PS-0” (or another PS number) flashing on the ZVOX display.
- Use the Volume Up button on the ZVOX remote to go to “PS-1”.
- Wait for the display to stop flashing.
For Original AccuVoice TV Speakers and Soundbars
AV200 (ver 1), AV205, SB380 (ver 1), SB400, SB500 (ver 1), SB700 (ver 1)
- Turn on your ZVOX speaker.
- Press and hold the Power and Volume Up (+) buttons on the right end of the speaker at the same time until you see “PS-0” (or another PS number) flashing on the ZVOX display.
- Use the Volume Up (+) button on the speaker (not the remote) to go to “PS-1”.
- Wait for the display to stop flashing.
For Soundbase Models
- Turn on your ZVOX speaker.
- Press and hold the Power/Mute and Volume Up (+) buttons on the front bottom edge of the speaker at the same time until you see “PS-0” (or another PS number) flashing on the ZVOX display.
- Use the Volume Up (+) button on the speaker (not the remote) to go to “PS-1”.
- Wait for the display to stop flashing.
Part 2: Program Your Spectrum UR-8780 / UR5U-8780L Remote
- Turn on the ZVOX speaker.
- Press the AUX button and the OK/SEL button at the same time for three seconds. The AUX device LED will turn on, indicating the remote is in programming mode. The LED will stay on for 30 seconds, and the next step must be done while the LED is on.
- Point the remote toward the ZVOX and enter a three-digit Sony code. If the first code doesn’t work, try one code at a time until the ZVOX turns off. Sony codes: 001, 018, 101, 166, 184, 218, 247, 248, 271, 380, 560, 612
- Store the code by pressing the AUX button again. The AUX device LED will blink twice to confirm the code has been stored.
Note: When the ZVOX turns off, you can verify you have the correct code by pressing the Power button. The ZVOX should turn back on. Then try volume up, volume down, and mute to make sure they all work. If any of these functions don’t work as they should, repeat Step 3 using the next code on the list.
Part 3: Lock the Volume Control to the AUX Button
- Press the OK/SEL button and the CBL button at the same time for three seconds. The device LED will turn on for 30 seconds, and the next step must be done while the LED is on.
- Press the VOL+ button. The device LED will blink.
- Press the AUX button. The device LED will blink twice to confirm the programming.
Now the volume buttons on your Spectrum 8780 remote will control your ZVOX while the remote is in CBL mode.
