HDMI Audio Extractor for TVs with No Audio Outputs
It is rare but some TVs have no audio outputs, meaning no optical TOSLINK jack, no RCA audio output, and no 3.5mm analog output (headphone jack). This leaves no direct way to connect many ZVOX products. An HDMI switch box with an audio extractor solves this. It sits between your source devices and the TV, passes the video through to the TV, and pulls the audio out to an optical or analog output that the ZVOX can use.
These switch boxes are only worth considering if your TV has none of the audio outputs listed above and no HDMI jack labeled ARC or eARC. Please note that some ZVOX products are compatible with ARC and eARC, so an optical or analog output on the TV is not necessary with those models.
If your TV does have an HDMI jack labeled ARC or eARC, a better option is either a ZVOX model that supports HDMI ARC or an HDMI ARC audio extractor.

Setup Instructions
- Use an HDMI cable to connect the OUT jack on the switch box to HDMI 1 on your TV. Set the TV to HDMI 1 and leave the TV on.
- Plug power into the switch box. Depending on the model, this will be a USB connection to the TV or a wall adapter.
- Plug your source devices into the numbered HDMI inputs on the switch box. Anything that would normally connect to your TV can go here, such as a streaming stick, cable box, satellite receiver, or Blu-ray player.
- Connect the ZVOX to either the optical or analog audio output on the switch box.
- Make sure the switch box is powered on and lit up. Turn the ZVOX on and set it to the matching input using the ZVOX remote.
- On the switch box, make sure the LED is lit above the input your source device is plugged into. Once you have a picture on the TV, you will hear the audio through the ZVOX.
From this point on, you will use a button on the switch box or its remote to change between your HDMI sources rather than the TV remote. Everything else will work normally.
